The Dispatches have been on hiatus from late summer into winter as I downsized to senior living and hurtled down a rabbit-hole into the topsy-turvy world of Unreal Estate. More on that before long. But I was dragged out of my hibernation by a need to sublimate the horror of November and dread for 2025 . The result is another in my rewrites of The Night Before Christmas.
’Tis the night before Christmas
When all through D.C.
The Deep State is worrying
How to save democracy.
While down in Mar-a-Lago
Trump’s transition team
Plots Revenge and Retribution
On all who’ve been mean.
Armed with their lists
Of Naughty and Nice
They name all the traitors
Who must now pay the price.
Did you praise their Dear Leader
On national TV?
Or write something nasty
For the whole world to see?
Radical left lunatics
And the FBI too,
Bureaucrats and immigrants,
They are coming for you!
The Nice get a chance
For a Cabinet job,
No qualifications needed,
Sexual assault history? No prob!
Now it’s the time
To decide who to fire.
First up is Santa,
Enemy within and DEI hire.
Santa is “woke”
He believes in equality,
Each year he leaves presents
Under every kid’s tree.
His reindeer are illegals
His elves foreign scum
From some Northern hellhole,
Send them back, every one.
Make Christmas Great Again
Is the rallying cry
As Trump jumps in the sleigh
And gets ready to fly.
At his side little Elon
Is the most perfect elf,
Hoarding the gift bags
More gold for himself!
Not reindeer, but Trump’s
Best billionaire bros
Are hitched to the sleigh
As he sings his Ho-Ho’s.
On Bezos! On Zuckerberg!
On Ramaswamy! On Cook!
They all kissed the ring
Now how servile they look.
“Vengeance is mine” cries
This un-jolly St. Nick
As he breaks all his promises.
Voters fell for this trick!
Now the new MAGA Santa
Sets course for the Red states,
No presents this Christmas
For the children in Blue states!

Dispatches From the Former New World 
I can’t comment on American politics, but was disappointed by the result, though a friend said it was good as Trump did a lot for America.
Instead, I have reread some of your other stories – your DNA disappointment, and Frank and Lydie overcoming odds including the sausenbrunder.
I commend your perseverance in researching your family history. My research is largely based on other people’s work. I just put it together, but am well pleased with the results.

Nicely done–a great summation of all the reasons this will not be the merriest of Christmases but will be the scariest New Year. I still can’t believe half the US thought this Orange Obscenity was in any way worthy of or suited for a second term. Get me out of this country I no longer recognize!
